Playhouse Disney Channel For My Toddlers

Today I’m still on Chinese New Year vacation. As usual my daughters like to watch TV. We subscribe to a TV cable at home. One of their menus is Playhouse Disney Channel. It’s my daughters’ favorite channel & really suitable for children on their age.

After some months the adult people at home start to feel bored because this channel shows the same films again & again. But because of this repetition my 3-year-old lady can memorize many English words or phrases easily. To tell you the truth I never teach English to my children although I’m an English teacher. From this TV my children can study English in a fun way & without pressure

Comfortable Cheap Shoes

Today I, my husband & my first daughter go to a big market in East Jakarta. I want to buy plastic shoes. Since its rainy season now I think it’s suitable to wear plastic shoes in the rain. I don’t have to wash my shoes everyday, I just have to wipe them.

I buy a pair of shoes for me & a pair for my big girl. She looks so happy with her shoes. At first I don’t want to buy them for her because I think cheap shoes are not comfortable for children. But after we go home my big girl don’t want to put them off. She dances with her shoes, wears them when she’s playing, watching TV & eating. She really loves them & she says to our servant her shoes are soft.

Sometimes I think expensive shoes are the ones that comforting children. Apparently the low-prized ones are too. Trust me.

Let Them Think & Do by Themselves (06.02.08)

We have a very difficult student in the class. He entered our school on Play Group level, now he sits on Kindergarten B level. He is a good looking little guy actually but so difficult to be understood. He paid less attention than other students. He didn’t do the tasks seriously. He kicked & punched his friends without feeling guilty. He used dirty words when he got angry. He didn’t like to listen to us, his teachers. The only 1 cause we know is that his mom spoiled him so much. His mom always accompanied him to school, brought his bag & said ‘yes’ to everything he wanted.

Nowadays he comes alone to school. We see there is a very big change. He can be more serious in class. He works harder for the assignments. He becomes nicer to friends. He listens when we talk.

Sometimes we think our presence around our children can be a good atmosphere for them. Apparently it’s not always. There are some times when we must let them think & do by themselves. It trains them know, understand & decide the good & the bad.

A Child is the Strongest Person in Sickness (05.02.08)

I have analyzed this for a very long time… A child is the strongest person in sickness. I have a pretty female student, yesterday I heard that on Sunday she fell from her bed & she sprained her ankle. She is not a spoiled girl. She comes to school bravely though we can see that she still feels the pain. She still can not walk normally but she doesn’t complain.

Today we notice that every time she sits on her chair she grimaces in pain. We warn her not to be too active but she still walks around the class happily. I always want to learn from a child that if I get sick I try to smile & ignore it as it is not a very big burden.

Difficult to find milk (04.02.08)

I give my babies inexpensive milk. We never think that giving them the expensive ones is the guarantee of making them brighter or healthier. Their pediatrician once said that it’s only a matter of advertising & packing. Sometimes at the beginning of the month like now it’s difficult to find that milk in the supermarket, maybe because it’s a low-priced product.

Sunday Morning at home (03.02.08)

It’s a cloudy day today. Last night it’s raining very hard. This morning I make chocolate jelly for my daughters in the kitchen, its’ their favorite homemade snack. As usual my big girl is curious to what I do.

She’s 3 & she wants to do things by herself. She also likes helping us. She helps to close her sister’s bottle, she helps to bring her sister’s meal to the baby chair, she helps to open her sister’s diapers, etc. If we, the adults, take over those things she will get angry & she will redo them.

My daughters today (02.02.08)

Today I stay at home. My first daughter is going out of town with my parents. I play with my baby daughter in the bedroom. I think having a daughter or a son (like my sister) is the same. My baby girl likes jumping & rolling around on the bed, sometimes I almost get heart attack when she almost fall. My parents have 8 children, none of us is calm, it’s a miracle that they still have healthy hearts until now.

When my big girl comes home the atmosphere is complete. She’s always excited to be together with me, her father & her little sister. Sometimes her cheerful voice is annoying, but it’s nice to know the reason.
